These trenches must be part of the waterproofing system to help draw the rainwater and debris to the final drainage area. The trench is usually placed near the exterior wall and next to the drain mat. With the membrane as the first step, you can reduce the chances of water damage from flooding. The drain mat will help move the water to the trench, and the trench removes the water from the area towards the road or other drainage area.
